About
Hey Hey!
Welcome to Studio Mannina’s website.
Currently Studio Mannina is a one woman and two dogs ceramic and art production team. The one woman, Hritodaya (which is me) does all the work while the two dogs Sheru and Desmond take a more supervisory role.
My serious exploration in ceramics began at Golden Bridge Pottery, Pondicherry (GBP). There, I had the opportunity to learn from some of the best production potters there are in India. Aarti Manik, Ranjita Bora, Ray Meeker and Deborah Smith have guided me through my learning experience at GBP. Each of them provided a deeper appreciation of working with clay. For this I am truly grateful.
After taking a short break, I found an opening to be an assistant/apprentice to Veena Chandran at her studio, Studio Farishtey in Pune. Working with Veena has been a rich learning experience which included a glimpse into the functioning of a studio. Though our styles and aesthetics are very different, I have gained a life-long friend and mentor in Veena.
Ceramics has become a third avenue for creative expression in a functional space. My previous work was based in graphic design and illustration.
Currently, pieces from Studio Mannina are made in series. Each series is produced in small batches with an intent for them to be rooted within a theme, concept or form.
Focusing on making a series gives me an opportunity to research, experiment and explore forms and techniques. My desire is that each creation that comes out of Studio Mannina be a functional piece of ceramic that has its own story.
All my ceramic work is handmade and has either been wood fired or fired in a gas kiln. If you would like to know more about the process, head over to “How We Make” section here on the website.
If you are curious about what is available for purchase head over to the shop section. Also if you would like to get in touch with me for orders and queries please do send me an email.
I find great joy from seeing the work made in Studio Mannina find a new home, where it becomes an integral part of daily life and routine.
Studio Mannina is able to exist because of all the love and support I have received from mentors, family and friends.
